Bird Watching

From April to August you can watch ospreys and capercaillies diving for fish in our beautiful surroundings. Whether you’re an avid Ornithologist or just enjoy the splendour of these birds, it’s well worth a visit.

Things to Do

Speyside has much to offer the more active visitor. You can visit distilleries, castles, and other heritage attractions such as the Speyside Cooperage in Craigellachie and the Strathspey Steam Railway.

Our small Porsche group has safely returned to Hamburg after a fantastic Scotland drive and about 5,000 km on the road. On behalf of all my colleagues I would like to thank you both for being the perfect hosts during our tour. When asked what the highlight was in our Scotland visit, all of us agreed it was our stay with you. We felt not only very comfortable in Culdearn house, but really at home with you. And, of course, breakfast and dinner were fantastic – as were the drinks (although we only had two whiskey drinkers). And I shouldn’t forget you organizing our tours on day 2 – of which the Ballindalloch whiskey tour was especially outstanding.

I have to say that Scotland is my favorite country so far. It’s absolutely stunning, food is fantastic, whisky is delicious and people are the nicest we’ve met on all our travels. We are definitely going back. Hotels were great. I think the one you were not familiar with was the Culdearn House. It’s fairly small B&B, very nice. What makes it really special is the couple running it. Mr. and Mrs. Marshal (not sure if there is two “L”). We ended up staying there for dinner both nights and Mrs. Marshall’s cooking is phenomenal. Her husband takes care of making sure the guests are feeling welcomed. Mrs. Marshal planned the itinerary for our day trip with Lindsay, our driver, and they did a great job. She made reservations, planned the timing, all we needed to do was to show up and enjoy ourselves. We wouldn’t be able to do that ourselves simply because we wouldn’t know how to. We got a lot of local color and culture that day.

Culdearn House is a small, privately owned country house hotel in Grantown-on-Spey, on the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, and close to Aviemore.

This beautiful Victorian house, built in 1860, was once the home of Lord Seafield’s family and has retained many of its original period features.

It is now owned and personally run by the Marshall family who have made it their home and small hotel offer a choice of six luxury en-suite bedrooms, a sophisticated drawing room for relaxing by the open fire and a small, intimate restaurant mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
